Volkswagen Key Services
Jetta, Passat, Tiguan, Atlas, Golf.

What to expect
Volkswagen key jobs vary by year and trim — older models often use a basic transponder chip while newer ones run proximity or push-to-start keyless systems. European vehicles especially require dealer-grade equipment for full immobilizer pairing — never a generic clone.
When you submit a request, we route it only to a partner equipped for your specific Volkswagen make — not to whichever locksmith answers first.
Typical services
- Lost-keys (no working key)
- Spare key cut + program
- Smart key replacement
- Key fob replacement
- Ignition repair
- Programming only (your blank)
Volkswagen key replacement at a glance
Volkswagen is the mass-market Volkswagen Group brand in the U.S. Jetta, Tiguan, Atlas, Golf carry volume per Cox Automotive sales data. The VW fleet shares VAG immobilizer family with Audi but generally with less restrictive Component Protection.
Typical 2026 pricing runs $200-$520 all-in. A 2015 Jetta MQB spare lands $195-$285; a 2024 Atlas SE proximity all-keys-lost runs $385-$520.
VW is significantly easier than Audi — most models do NOT require full MLB Evo Component Protection. The MQB Golf, Jetta, Tiguan, Atlas can be programmed with standard VAG tools (Xhorse VVDI2). Exceptions: 2020+ Atlas, 2021+ ID.4, Arteon variants with SGW.
Why Volkswagen keys are different
VW immobilizer mirrors Audi at chip level but applies Component Protection more selectively. Immo 3/4 well-supported. MQB (2013+) is dominant. VW publishes service docs via erWin Volkswagen technical portal. The 4th-gen Megamos AES on Atlas/Tiguan 2018+ was publicly cryptanalyzed (Garcia et al., 22nd USENIX Security Symposium) but VW's MQB mitigation makes field programming straightforward.
2020 brought SGW (Security Gateway) on Atlas refresh, ID.4, Arteon — blocks unauthenticated OBD-II access. Three paths: (1) VW ODIS with online auth; (2) licensed aftermarket (VVDI2 + Atlas-specific cable, AVDI, AutoLink LINK Pro); (3) NASTF VSP-credentialed access.

Industry insight
“VW's a way more accessible aftermarket job than Audi — Atlas and Tiguan are 90% of our VW volume and they're both MQB plain-vanilla on most trims. The one place we slow down is 2021+ Atlas SE+ and SEL Premium with SGW — that needs the active subscription. Without it the job will not complete.”
